Place Value, Adding and Subtracting
This chapter will explore place value for whole numbers through the trillions period. Addition and subtraction of whole numbers will be reviewed. (Students are expected to have learned all addition and subtraction math facts for instant recall.) Students will compare and order larger numbers. Whole numbers may be expressed in standard form, word form, expanded form, or number word form. Exponents and exponential form will be introduced in addition to expanded form using exponents. At the end of the chapter we will begin our introduction to algebraic expressions and equations. Students will use operational Properties, mental math strategies and Properties of Equality with inverse operations to evaluate one step equations with whole numbers. After exploring larger numbers we will then begin Chapter 2 which relates to small number values (decimals).
